ACT subscores in reading, English, mathematics and
science reasoning are used for the first level of
assessing student readiness for college-level coursework.
An ACT score of 19 or above (or SAT equivalent) automatically
qualifies a student for college-level coursework in
that subject area (i.e., a 1000-level course or higher). The
ACT subscore in reading is used to indicate readiness
for introductory college courses that require extensive
reading (sociology, political science, psychology,
history, economics, philosophy, etc.).
If
a student does not achieve a 19 or higher in an ACT
subject-area test, the results of Entry-level
Placement Analysis may be used for course placement
decisions.
