Entry-Level Placement Analysis (ELPA) is a predictive
statistical model that uses high school grades, high
school core curriculum grades, high school class rank,
and ACT composite and subject
area scores to predict success in introductory OSU
courses. All first-time students and transfer students
with less than 24 credit hours are assessed using
ELPA. Results from ELPA indicate whether remedial
coursework is needed in any subject area or if the
student has restrictions on enrollment in college-level
courses.
A
Student Assessment Report is produced for every new
student at OSU and summarizes ELPA information, including
a summary of the student's academic information and,
if applicable, recommendations for remedial coursework.
If
the results of ELPA indicate that remedial coursework
is needed in a particular subject area, the student
may take a COMPASS placement
test in that subject area to qualify for college-level
courses.
