CAGE Structure

The structure of the Committee for the Assessment of General Education (CAGE) is designed to incorporate representatives from a variety of disciplines and colleges to facilitate clear communication and cooperation on general education initiatives and assessment.

 
Membership

Voting Membership of CAGE shall include a faculty member appointed by the respective Associate Dean for Instruction from each of the following academic colleges:

  • College of Arts & Sciences

  • College of Education and Human Sciences

  • College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology

  • Ferguson College of Agriculture

  • Spears School of Business

University Assessment & Testing (UAT) will provide Associate Deans lists of faculty assessment coordinators from which to potentially select replacement members.

Non-voting membership of CAGE shall include at least one assessment representative from University Assessment and Testing (UAT): either the Assistant Vice Provost for Accreditation, Assessment, and Testing or the Associate Director of Assessment and Analysis.

 
Membership Terms

All members should commit  to a three-year term.  Terms are renewable.  Terms are staggered (to help retain institutional knowledge) such that only two voting members come up for re-appointment each year.  The staggered term endings repeat every three years as follows:

 Year One  AG & EHS
 Year Two  CAS & CEAT
 Year Three  SSB
Chair

The CAGE Chair shall be selected from the voting membership at the beginning of the academic year.  A committee member must serve on CAGE for at least one year before being considered for the chair.  Chair terms are renewable.  The primary responsibilities of the chair are to convene and preside over regular CAGE meetings and attend Assessment and Academic Improvement Council (AAIC) meetings as the CAGE representative.  The chair will work with the UAT representative to organize materials for the meeting agendas.  The chair will also assist the UAT Assistant Vice Provost for Accreditation, Assessment, and Testing with communication of assessment results to stakeholders.

 
General Education Advisory Council (GEAC) Attendance

To facilitate information sharing with the General Education Advisory Council (GEAC), a voting CAGE member will attend GEAC meetings.  GEAC attendance will rotate annually amongst voting CAGE members according to the following schedule, repeating every five years:

 Year One  AG
 Year Two  CEAT
 Year Three  SSB
 Year Four  EHS
 Year Five  CAS
